Lesson 15: Satin weave and its variations

Characteristics of satin weave

1. Long floats make it suitable for dresses due to its luster.
2. Minimum interlacings are a weakness in the structure, greater chance to snagging and show signs of wear, slippage and raveling.
3. Has resistance to wrinkling and are smooth.
4. Good drapability, more body and strength, durability, firmness, wind repellency, less porosity due to compactness of weave.
5. Heavier than twill
