Lesson 19: Components of Knitting

Sinkers

These are thin metal elements placed between each pair of needles. They may perform one or more functions- loop formation, holding down and knocking over. They control fabric movement during the knitting operation and help to pull the fabric off the needles. In most machines the sinkers serve as fabric holding elements.
