Technology transfer and adoption process work simultaneously. Technology transfer process refers to the spread of new idea from originating sources to ultimate users. In fact, technology transfer is a process related to adoption of an innovation in the entire system. The spread of an innovation in a social system passes through various stages. Although it is difficult to differentiate stages from each other, yet their identification will help in better understanding of the system.
The Technology transfer is a highly complex process involving seven sub-systems viz., research, extension, clients, inputs, economic, psycho-socio-cultural, administrative, and organizational systems. It is further added that these seven sub-systems are interlinked and none of these should be under-rated as these are vital links in the chain of technology transfer and utilization. The stages that can be identified in the technology transfer process is shown below
Research in this figure refers to science, in contrast to technology. Scientific research seeks new knowledge and through its analytical process tries to package the scientific knowledge into a technology. People need technology for modifying or improving existing practices duly supported with scientific knowledge.
