• Body compressed with round abdomen
• Mouth slightly downturned with blunt snout
• 2 pairs of barbels on upper jaw; lower pair slightly longer
• Long dorsal fin, scales thick, and big
• Omnivore; bottom feeder
• Grows to 1 – 1.5 kg in one year
• Breeds freely in ponds

• Mirror carp – C. carpio specularis
• Leather carp – C. carpio nudes.
