Induced breeding
Induced breeding
● The breeding season of P. sarana is southwest monsoon.
● Inject fish with ovatide or ovaprim at 0.05-0.1 ml per female and 0.03-0.05 ml per male.
● Release the injected brooders (1:2) in breeding hapa for spawning.
● Introduce about one kg of Hydrilla, as a substratum for the attachment of eggs.
● Disinfect the plants with a solution of KMnO4 prior to introduction.
● Provide water showers in the tank to facilitate better spawning
● The fertilized eggs are small (0.9-1.0 mm diameter) and transparent.
● After spawning, remove the brooders from the tank, disinfect and transfer to a freshly prepared pond.
● Estimate fertilization and hatching rates.
