Position fixing by using horizontal angle

Position fixing by using horizontal angle

Three prominent shore objects are required for fixing the vessel’s position by taking horizontal angles. The horizontal angle is measured between first two objects. Similarly we have to take angle between second and third objects.

Procedure:

  1. From Madras light (L), draw an angle of 40o using compass rose.
  2. Similarly draw a straight line making an angle of 40o form radio tower
  3. The two lines intersect at a point which can be taken as A
  4. Similarly a position B is marked, by measuring an angle of 30o from radio tower (T) and temple.
  5. Having LA is radius and A as centre draw a circle
  6. With TB as radius and B as centre draw circle.
  7. The two circles intersect at two points and the deeper point in sea is taken as the vessel’s position.

Result:

Position of the vessel: N E
