BLOOD MEAL

This meal is obtained by drying the blood of slaughtered animals and poultry. It is in the form of dark brown coloured powder with a characterstic smell. Rich source of lysine, methionine, leucine with 80% protein but deficient in isoleucine and hence low biological value. It is a good food for boosting dietary lysine levels but is unpalatable. It is not recommended for young stock since it's use has resulted in reduced growth rates in poultry.
