BRAIN - CORTICAL CENTRES

  • The following fissures and the related cortical areas should be noted.
  • The lateral fissure of sylvius and the auditory area in the postsylvian gyrus.
  • The crucial fissure with the motor area in the anterior and posterior sigmoid gyri.
  • The coronal fissure, below and lateral to which is the coronal gyrus having the somesthetic area.
  • Rhinal fissure which separates the olfactory postion of brain (Rhinencephalon) from the cerebral cortex above.
  • The collosal fissure on the medial face of cerebral hemisphere, which separates the corpus callosum from the gyrus fornicatus, which has the gustatory area in the upper part and the olfactory area in the lower part (cingular gyrus).
  • The calcarine and posterior calarine fissures on the tentorial surface limiting the lingual gyrus having the visual area.
