Dipylidium caninum

Dipylidium caninum (Double – pored dog tapeworm)

Host	Dog
Location	Small intestine
Intermediate host	Ctenocephalides canis (Dog flea), Heterodoxus spiniger (Dog louse)
Intermediate stage	Cysticercoid
Scolex	Has a prominent proboscis like rostellum with 3-4 rows of spirally arranged rose-thorn shaped hooks. Suckers are unarmed.
Mature segments	Have 2 sets of genitalia with bilateral genital pore Testes are many and restricted to the middle of segments. Vitelline glands are present below the ovaries. Branched ovaries and vitelline glands together appear like bunch of grapes on either side of the mature segments.
Gravid segments	They are characteristically cucumber seed shaped Show numerous large sized egg packets or capsules, each containing 4-20 eggs.
