Feeding of breeding male
-
Breeding bull should be fed good quality roughage and sufficient concentrates to keep them thrifty, but not fat. When the bull is receiving a liberal supply of good quality forage, it needs an additional 2-3 kg of 13-15 per cent protein concentrate mixture.
-
Feeding excess of silage or hay is undesirable as it will make the bull paunchy and less efficient in mating.
-
Nutrient supply in the ration should be according to body weight and intensity of service.
-
For bulls used in artificial insemination where maximum number of ejaculations are received, a schedule similar to that for high yielding cow but in necessary quantity, may be followed.
