RUMINANT FORE STOMACH

  • The mucosa of rumen, reticulum and omasum are aglandular
    • Shows mucosa, muscularis and serosa
    • The mucosa of rumen shows tongue shaped papillae
    • Epithelium is stratified squamous cornified type
    • There is no muscularis mucosa
    • Tunica muscularis is made up of inner circular and outer longitudinal layers of smooth muscle fibres
    • The layers are as in rumen
    • The mucosa shows large and small folds
    • The larger ones show papillae on their sides
    • Larger folds show muscularis mucosa at their tips which is absent elsewhere
    • Large and small lamina studded with papillae are present. Muscularis mucosa is present
    • Large laminae also show circular layer of tunica muscularis
