Demonstration of aspergillus

DEMONSTRATION OF ASPERGILLUS

  • Microscopically the hyphae are septate. The fungus is characterized by the presence of numerous conidiophores.
  • Each conidiophore expands into a large vesicle at the end called columella, which is covered by finger-like structures known as sterigmata.
  • Each sterigmatum bears a chain of spherical conidia. The morphology can be examined undisturbed by placing the slant under low power of microscope or by making slide preparations.
  • Culturally the colonies of A.fumigatus develop rapidly on solid media as white filamentous growth, which increases in size up to 2-3 cm and becomes green or dark green in colour.
