 Diagnosis

  • Removal of the source, saline purgatives and high protein diet are said to be useful.
  • Acetylcysteine a substitute for glutathione may be effective.
  • In chronic selenium toxicity, addition of copper to the diet is useful to prevent selenosis.
  • Addition of inorganic arsenicals enhances biliary excretion of selenium and increasing the dietary levels of sulphur containing proteins is also beneficial.
