APPAREL MANUFACTURING – II 3(3+0)

Lesson 13 : Cutting

Introduction

Following the issue plan, the cutting order instructs what to cut, which fabrics to use, and how to cut. A computerized cutting order put forth clear data to determine what markers should be made, how fabrics should be spread and cut and the most cost effective number if plies, colours and size mixes (fig 1).

The marker is put on top of the plies/layers of fabric. A conventional method uses a skilled cutting master who follows the pattern outlines on the marker using a cutting machine to cut components. The cutter selects the right machine, speed and blade depending on the number of plies and fabric. For example a coarser blade is used for tightly woven fabrics and a smooth edge for soft fabrics.
