Definitions of stitches and seams

  1. A seam is define as the application of a series of stitches or stitch types to one or several thick nesses of material
  2. A stitch is a loop structure of threads stitching is a series of stitches
  3. A series of stitches, whose function is only to ornament or encompass an edge of fabric ply is called stitching.

Sewing is the process of making stitching or seams.

The terms stitching and seaming are also used to denote processing.

Components of sewing:

The central process in the manufacture of clothing is the joining together of components- operations that all involve sewing in one form or another. Although there are a large number of different categories of sewing machine, their actual sewing functions are all derived from the same components parts of sewing.
