7.1.1 Introduction

7.1.1 Nucleic acid

A "nucleic acid" is a polymer in which the monomer units are nucleotides. Nucleic acids fall into two classes according to the nature of the sugar they contain: theĀ deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and the ribose containing ribonucleic acid (RNA). DNA is found primarily in cell nuclei and certain viruses, but it may also occur in other portions of cell, e.g. mitochondria.
