4.1.4 Network Topologies

4.4.4 Network Topologies

An arrangement of connections that link computers and other devices in a network is known as network topology. A network topology indica tes the shape (or physical connectivity) of the network. The more common network topologies are:

  • Hierarchical (or tree) topology
  • Linear bus (or horizontal) topology
  • Ring (or hub) topology
  • Hybrid (or mesh) topology

There are a number of factors that determine which topology is the best for a given situation. They include the type of computers, the response time, and the cost of implementation.
