4.1.4.1 Hierarchical Topology

The hierarchical topology was one of the most common networks used in the eighties. An example of such a topology is where microcomputers are connected to minicomputers which in turn are connected to a large mainframe computer. In such cases,' the mainframe computer which is at the highest order of hierarchy is in control of the network. This arrangement is sometimes known as multi-user, time-sharing network.
