4.1.4.3 Star Topology

4.1.4.3 Star Topology

A star topology uses a central controlling computer that controls and routes all communication requests. Each node is directly linked to the central computer known as the hub. The arrangement is similar to the hierarchical one, except that the star topology uses only a single level of hierarchy. Communication between nodes can take place only with the help of the host computer. The major disadvantage of the star network is that the failure of the host computer (hub) brings down t he entire network.
