5.1.2.1 Interspecific hybrids

(Hybrids produced by crossing between different species)
- O+ Labeo calbasu x L. rohita ♂ (calbasu - rohu). Hybrid fertile and has smaller head. Other morphometric characters are intermediate between calbasu and rohu. Hybrid grows faster than L. calbasu.
- O+ Labeo– rohita x L. calbasu ♂ (rohu - calbasu). Hybrid also fertile. Superior in growth rate to calbasu. Both the above hybrids can be used in place of calbasu in aquaculture.

The sunshine bass, a hybrid between white bass (Moronechrysops) female and the striped bass (M.saxatilis) male grows faster and has better overall culture characteristics (good osmoregulation, high thermal tolerance, resistance to stress and disease, high survival in culture, and ability to utilize soy beans as protein source) than either parent species.

This hybrid is commercially cultured mainly in the USA,and in Israel and Taiwan.
