Vitamins

  1. Vitamin A

  2. Vitamin D
Vitamin D is now considered more a pro-hormone than a vitamin. It can be synthesized in the body in adequate amounts by simple exposure to sunlight just for 5 minutes per day.

In prescribing medicinal vitamin D under certain situations where there is minimal exposure to sunlight, a specific recommendation of a daily supplement of 400 ?g is made.

  3. Vitamin E
Vitamin E requirement is linked to that of essential fatty acids (linoleic and linolenic acids). The requirement of vitamin E (tocopherol) suggested is 0.8 mg/g of essential fatty acids.

  4. Vitamin K
The committee considered that no recommendation needs to be made for this vitamin, since vitamin K deficiency in India is seen only occasionally in premature newborn infants. A dose of 0.5-1.0 mg of vitamin K administered by the intramuscular route to such infants is suggested.

  5. Thiamine

  6. Riboflavin

  7. Nicotinic acid

  8. Folic acid

  9. Vitamin B12

  10. Vitamin C
