Lesson 8: Preparation of yarn for weaving

Introduction

After the selection of yarns suitable for weaving based on the wastage allowances, it has to be processed in a proper way as the preparation has a considerable influence the efficiency of weaving. Both the warp and the weft yarns have to be prepared to make them suitable for weaving without any hindrance to weaving operation. As seen earlier warp yarn undergoes a lot of tension and wear in the weaving operation and so it has to be strong, smooth and extensible. At the same time weft yarn do not take much wear and so does not require much preparation. For this reason there is a difference in the method of how warp yarns and weft yarns are processed.
