Finding Solutions to Problems

The extension officers at the block level and the gram sevaks/anganwadi workers at the village level are two key functionaries, who need to have a clear knowledge of the village problems and also well equipped to offer solutions to the rural problems. They must consult their superior specialists on problems they are not able to handle themselves. Moreover, the extension specialists must work as partners in the programme and specific experts at district and state levels who assist the block level specialists must also be fully oriented and trained with an understanding of village problems and programmes. Extension advisors are able to suggest solutions to most problems of a technical nature, but often they may require advice from extension specialists who are in touch with current research in their respective fields. Experienced specialists cannot only suggest solutions to technical problems, but suggest appropriate extension methods for communicating the information to the community people. Advice of the officers of rural organizations, representatives of other government agencies and rural leaders may also be taken into account for problem solving.
