A blind is a component made up of many thin parallel horizontal or vertical slats that can be set simultaneously at any angle to control light and provide privacy. Horizontal blinds can be raised or lowered. Vertical blinds are retractable from side to side
Horizontal Blinds:
Horizontal venetian blinds are always fitted within a window frame (Fig 9.4); however, whole walls of glass can be covered with them. The size of the slats varies from approximately 1/2 inch to about 2 inches. Venetian-type blinds can be made with wood, metal, or plastic slats. They are available in many colors.
Vertical blinds
Vertical blindshave a strong architectural character and are most effective when used as large planes that cover both window and surrounding wall. The slats (called vanes) are available in difÂferent widths of opaque plastic, whitish in color. They pivot from a track at the top (Fig 9.5) rather than on the sides, as do venetian-type blinds. Some manufacturers make vertical blinds in translucent plastic, as well as in novelty textures of luxury materials like leather, bamboo.
