Applique

A method of applying small pieces of fabric which are cut into a definite shape onto a larger material is known as appliqué. A design can be cut on a printed fabric and appliquéd on a plain fabric or vice versa. The most common hand stitch used for appliqué is buttonhole stitch if the edges are to be visible and slip stitch if invisible edges are desired. If appliqué is done by machine then a running stitch or a zigzag stitch can be used.
