Lesson 10 : Principles Of Planning - II

Prospect

It is the panoramic view or a grand impression that the house creates on a person who views it from outside. The building’s exterior design pulls the attention of every viewer to its visual consequences for good or ill. Hence, owners work with their architects to ensure their property creates a strong first impression.
A building with good prospect, must be attractive in appearance, modern, cheerful, and comfortable.
A pergola, ornamental arch, beautiful window, carved pillars, projecting balcony, modern design on the walls and roof may add to the charm of the house.
A simple and elegant building façade holds the attention of the viewer for longer duration than the one with too much ornamentation and gaudy finish.

Corner houses receive the attention of viewers moving on two roads, therefore lot more emphasis on two elevations of building exterior. A lot of money is spent on the building elevations to get hold of the best panoramic view, as this adds prestige and social status to the owner.
