2. Leaf hopper - Empoasca flavescens Fab. (Cicadellidae: Hemiptera)

    Damage
    • Both nymphs and adults desap the leaves resulting curling and crinkling of leaves.
    • The margins of the leaves turn brownish and dry up causing the symptom "rim blight."
    Bionomics
    • It is a small yellowish green jassid.
    • It lays eggs singly on the veins and midribs of leaves and on young stems.
    • The egg period is 6-13 days.
    • The nymphal period ranges from 8-12 days with five instars.
    • The insect is found on the plants throughout the year.
