Pathogenesis of Azoturia

PATHOGENESIS OF AZOTURIA

  • Gluteal muscles are commonly involved due to their high content of glycogen.
  • Myopathic lesion cause pressure on the sciatic nerve and other crural nerve.
  • Necrotic muscle fibers, hard, painful swelling of the large muscle masses result in secondary neuropathic degeneration of rectus femoris and vastus muscles leading to myoglobin liberated from the necrotic muscle fibers followed by dark red brown urine.
  • Death due to decubital septicemia or myohemoglobinuric nephrosis and uremia and degeneration of myocardium.
