TREATMENT FOR AZOTURIA

• Further exercise should be avoided.
• Keep the horse in a loose box or box stall.
• Effort should be made to keep the horse standing.
• Slinging may be advisable.
• Narcosis or chloral hydrate (if pain).
• Corticosteroids I/V.
• Thiamine Hcl 0.5 gm I/M- gives favorable results.
• Antihistamines, vitamin E injection.
• Sodium bicarbonate orally or I/V- to keep the urine alkaline to avoid putrificaton of myoglobin in renal tubules.
• Hot fomentation to affected part.
