Food Hygiene

Food hygiene refers to hygiene during production, distribution, storage, preparation, and handling of food.

It includes:

  1. Meat hygiene
  2. Fish hygiene
  3. Milk hygiene
  4. Hygiene of the food handlers

Need for food hygiene

  1. Food is a potential source of infection
  2. It is liable to contamination by micro-organism at any point during its journey from the producer to the consumer.
  3. Food hygiene in its widest sense implies hygiene in the production, handling, distribution and serving of all types of food.
  4. It provides protection from food poisoning and other food borne illness.
