Methods of Learning Skills

EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND DEVELOPMENT

Methods of Learning Skills

Following are the important methods of learning skills:

  1. Trial and Error

Trial and error is learning by doing. It is also referred to as discovery learning. Children achieve success sooner if teacher sets a proper example for them to imitate. It reduces the number of errors children make and thus help them to develop their self-confidence. Children require supervision, reinforcement of acceptable performance and immediate feedback to correct their errors.

  2. Training

Training is a process of learning a sequence of programmed behavior. It is the application of knowledge and gives children an awareness of rules and procedures to guide their behavior. It helps in bringing about a positive change in the knowledge, skills and attitudes of children.

  3. Imitation

This way of learning begins in early childhood period and lasts throughout their lifetime. Naturally children imitate the behavior of their teacher. Teacher must be a proper example and provide a positive reinforcement to children.
