EARLY CHILDHOOD CARE AND DEVELOPMENT
Lesson 30: Need and Importance of development of Skills during Early Childhood Period

Development of Skills

Importance- Early childhood is a crucial age for learning skills. It is very important that the groundwork for skills is well laid in babyhood. Skills learned at this stage will make the child to do things with least effort in later life.

Meaning of a Skill-A skill may be described as a series of movements that has been learnt through practice. Learning of a skill needs the co-ordination or working of nerves and muscles together.

Body Control and Skills- Body control and skills are not the same thing. Body control is usually limited to the co-ordinated movements of the body. Skills in the ECH are concerned with dressing, feeding, bathing themselves, etc. Body control is the platform on which skills are built.
