Lesson 16 &17 : Nutritional Services for Children

Introduction

In the Third and Fourth five year plans, an emphasis has been laid on the nutritional needs the children and mothers. Many of the diseases prevailing among children are their future handicaps are due to lack of nutritional deficiencies is food, the results of nutrition survey carried out in different parts of deficiency diseases in majority of the infants and children. Therefore knowing nutritional necessity for maintain the health of children and preventing diseases various programmes have been started to meet the nutritional deficiencies among children by different departments.

Nutrition programme:
To improve health condition of the children, more important to overcome malnutrition and under nutrition than medical treatment and the environmental sanitation. Institutions and agencies running programme for children have to be careful not only is providing preventive measures like provided health check-up health education, environmental sanitation and medical aid to children but also to look to their nutrition as needs.
Government of India has worked out certain schemes and progarmmes of nutritional services for expectation and nursing mothers and the preschool children.
