Interview by social worker

Various stages and methods of examination precede treatment of maladjusted child. The child will have the first contact with the social worker. The worker has make a preliminary examination of the case and to obtain adequate picture of the family background and social environment of the children. This could be done by an interview with the child, his parents, friends, teachers etc., and by visiting the home, the neighborhood and the schools. These visits usually reveal very useful information about conditions, facilities in the home and school that affect the child. lf proper atmosphere is provided to the child, he might give some indication of his ailments expressing himself. The child's relationship with his brothers, sisters, parents and other relatives and friends will be useful indication of the general attitude the members of the family towards the child. The psychiatrist has to concentrate on the following information which is collected with the assistance of social worker:

  1. A general account of the child and his by the parents and the teachers.
  2. A description of all the family members with some account of their personality occupation and history
  3. A picture of the home in its material aspect and in rela­tion to the outside world.
  4. Environment in the neighborhood
  5. The position of the child in the school
