Use of Desert ecosystem

• Areas of scanty vegetation with semi-arid scrubland have been used for camel, cattle and goat grazing in Rajasthan and Gujarat, and for sheep grazing in Deccan Plateau.
  
• Areas with little moisture have been used for growing crops such as jowar and bajra.

Threats to the Desert ecosystem

Population growth, over-extraction of ground water from tube wells, lowers the water table, creating an even drier environment.
