• No light source should be in the field of view of any subject: a direct view of any light should be avoided.
• In principle no unshaded light should be used in living rooms.
• All lights should be shaded so that the average light intensity should not exceed 0.3 sb for general lighting and 0.2 sb for lighting at a work place. the angle between the horizontal direction of gaze and the line from eye to lamp should exceed 30· (see Figure 11.1).
• If in larger rooms an angle of less than 30· is unavoidable, then the lights must be fitted with effective lateral shades. If fluorescent lighting is used, it is best if the tubes are set at right angles to the line of sight.
• To avoid dazzle from reflections work places should be so placed in rela­tion to the lights (or the lights in relation to the work place) that the most frequent line of sight avoids any reflection, and reflections elsewhere should be below a contrast ratio of 1 : 10 (Ae Figures 11.2, 11.3).
• In principle the use of reflective colors and materials on table-tops and other installations should be forbidden, so that reflection is completely avoided
