Lesson 8 : Seams

Introduction

A seam is a method of joining two or more pieces of materials together by a row of stitching. During garment assembling process, seam selection and construction is an important aspect. The beauty of a garment depends largely on the precision and skill of joining pieces of garments together. Most of the seams are functional, used for smooth, invisible fusion of different pieces or, it can be made decorative by obviously showing the joint to create pleasing space divisions and add line interest. The choice of a seam for a garment is based on the texture of the fabric, shape and location of the seam in the garment, design, use and durability of the garment.
