Lesson 07:Types Of Gardens

Dutch gardens

Dutches were the pioneers in painting of landscapes.

  1. Dutch gardens were formal, rectangular and enclosed with clipped hedges. The yews were clipped into columns and pyramids.
  2. Water played a small part
  3. In most Dutch gardens, tulips, hyacinths, narcissus, crocus and daffodils were the most liked flowers. The flowers were arranged in tapestries in front of the lawns of houses.
  4. Shells, stones and glass beads were used to fill the spaces in the scrolls.
  5. Some figures, like a Turk smoking a hookah or a Gardener looking at a flower basket or a Dutchman in a tub were the common features in Dutch gardens
