Lesson 11:Garden Adornments And Structures

Outdoor garden rooms

  • Gazebos, garden pavilions, bandstands, bowers and thatched huts are designed in the corners of some garden
  • Well designed and carefully sited structures can add immeasurably to one’s pleasure outside.
  • These structures are carefully sited in the garden since they will inevitably draw the eye.
  • They may have open or closed roofs or full or partial walls.
  • These are most flexible 'outdoor rooms and their structure can be substantial or quite light.

  • Their designs can vary strictly from modern to traditional.
  • The thatched huts are erected in a relatively isolated corner and suitably camouflaged with climbers.
  • A bower is comparable to a hut whose sides are open and only the roof is present. It is constructed in a garden with bamboo, wood or iron frame work.
  • Beautiful climbers are trained on the roof of the bower in such way that the top is covered but the sides remain open.
  • Bandstands are generally circular or hexagonal structures open on all sides with a solid roof.
  • The function of these structures is to provide shelter and comfort while offering contact with the outdoors.
  • They are connected with other parts of the garden by providing easy and inviting pathways.
