Communication Between Adults

Communication is also an expression of love and respect for each other. The studies have shown that there is a direct relationship between marital satisfaction and agreement in perception of their roles as couple. Family values and goals are the underlying factors in adult communication process. Komarovsky has given three reasons for reduction in communication-differentiation in interests, socialization not to share and psychological barriers.

Komarovsky observed a trend towards decreasing communication with increasing years of marriage between husband and wife. He listed three important reasons for lower or lack of communication- differentiation in interests, socialization not to share and psychological barriers.

If sharing is absent both within and outside marriage, it may lead to loneliness. Psychological barriers to open communication in husband and wife interaction include the fear of hostile feelings and the danger that shoved information can be used against them.
