4. Process of controlling: The different phases of the control step are- energizing, checking and adjusting. The phase of ‘energizing or initiating and sustaining the action’ is very important in management. When the plans are made, many times we find there is an inertia to get started especially if it is a big problem.
Here, the ‘energizing’ function would act as a catalyst. The creation of short- term objectives has several advantages to make the long term goals tangible and meaningful.
Example: graduation education only up to considering it year by year.
The second phase of controlling the plan action is ‘checking’ the progress of the plan. It is a quick step by step appraisal of a plan in action. For every household activity, one needs to time it so that all would be accomplished. Specific ways of checking plans in action vary with the resources concerned and the people involved in the process.
The third phase of ‘control’ step is ‘adjusting’ the plan if necessary. Situation might have changed which necessitates fresh decisions taking into account the problem in hand and the availability of resources. Essentially the control step is meant for making the plan work with individual or joint effort. It calls for guiding and directing self or others to carry through the plan.
