Residential floor plans are usually small. The scale selected should enable the drawing to be reduced at least 48 times. The foundation plan and elevations use the same scale. Other parts of a set of drawings use larger scales because it is necessary to show great detail. Since commercial buildings are large they use a much smaller scale.
Choosing an appropriate scale
The amount of information given depends upon the size of the project and the complexity of the propose construction. The plans for a small residence could contain more detailed information than a multistoried building because the design is simple and materials are limited.
