Lesson 11:Orthographic Drawings - Drawing Floor Plans

Preliminary Considerations

After the concept floor plan has been designed and before drawing can begin, it is necessary to select the size of drawing paper to use. All drawings in a set must be on the same size sheet. The selection of sheet in general is determined by the size of the floor plan. Usually the floor plan is the largest single drawing and while setting the overall dimensions of the plan the allowances for exterior items like verandahs and porches should not be forgotten. An allowance of 3” on all sides of the plan should be left for dimensioning. The work area is not the sheet size but the area left after the border, legend and title block are in place.
