Lesson 28: Dyeing Methods

Space Dyeing

Yarn dyed at intervals along its length is called space dyed yarn. This effect can be accomplished by

1. Dyeing a knit fabric and then raveling it in a knit-de-knit method
2. Squirting dye from a needle into a yarn package in a process called yarn package impregnation or
3. Spraying colorant into yarn skeins.

Space dyed yarns create mottled and variegated colorations and are used in carpeting to help disguise soil.
