  • Moderate to very elongate body encased in body rings with small gill openings
  • Fins small
  • Dorsal fin single
  • Pelvic fins lacking
  • Some species without caudal fin
  • Caudal peduncle more prehensile
  • Tube like mouth
  • Eggs are attached to the body of male, sometimes enclosed in a pouch
  • Coronet may be present with spines
  • Anal fin short (2- rays)
  • Pelvic fin absent
  • Reported from Shallow coastal water
  • Head extended, separated from body
  • Body encased in numerous bony plates
