9.3.2. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)
The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), formerly called as Indian Standards Institution, was established in 1947 and is the national organization in India for food standards. The principal objective of BIS is to prepare standards on national basis and promote their adoption. The bureau has established over fifty standards for various fish and fishery products such as fresh fish, frozen fish and dried and cured products giving detailed information on requirements of processing, packaging, and methods of analysis for evaluation of quality.
