Rhythm

RHYTHM

  • Periodic respiration – In hyperventilation there is low arterial PCO2 where in there is a shorter or longer period of respiratory movements which alternates associated with apnea.
  • The respiratory center is stimulated by the reduced arterial PO2 and increased PCO2 and gets reversed, this is noticed with apnea.
  • Certain sedatives can cause hyperventilation.
