• Insemination can be done without restraining the sow because with some rubbing and pressure on back the sow stands calmly during AI.
• The insemination tube is guided into the cervix because the vagina tapers directly into the cervix which itself tapers.
• It is not possible to pass the catheter into the uterus but with inflated cuff, most of 50 ml is forced into the uterus.

Large semen volume and high sperm numbers are required in sows.
