COLLECTION OF SEMEN

• The semen collection is done in morning hours.
• The bulls will be active and the stomach will be empty in the morning hours which help in better semen collection.
• The mosquitos and flies will be less in morning hours.

The scheduled bulls will be carried from their paddocks to washing area.
The bulls should be washed to remove all the dirt.
They should be tied around the semen collection yard and should be dried of water.
The bulls should be tied with bull apron and the prepuce should be cleaned with normal saline.
The dummies are placed in trevis and restrained.
The bull will be brought behind the dummy and 2-3 false mountings will be allowed. (Click here to view picture).
When it is mounting with complete thrust the semen is collected with artificial vagina.
After collection the animals are given 20 minutes refractory period for second collection. But this time varies from bull to bull.
