3.2.4. Classification of ELISA

3.2.4. Classification of ELISA

ELISA are classified according to the way in which the target antigens are captured and detected.

Based on capture, there are two methods.

  1. Antigen capture ELISA – The target antigen is captured by the microplate
  2. Antibody capture ELISA – The target antigen is captured by an antibody attached to the microplate

Based on the detection, there are two methods

  1. Direct ELISA - The enzyme conjugate binds directly to the antigen
  2. Indirect ELISA – The enzyme conjugate binds indirectly to the antigen

Apart from these methods, there are two special ELISA methods.

  1. Competitive ELISA
  2. Reverse ELISA
